Today vowed to get to the bottom of the controversy surrounding Katy Perry’s AFL Grand Final performance and her set list for the 2024 event, and we finally have an answer. There were concerns that the star wouldn’t sing one of her biggest hits, “Roar,” with some suggesting it could give the Brisbane Lions an unfair advantage against the Sydney Swans this weekend.
But Today’s Renee Bargh sat down with Perry ahead of her performance and put the crucial question to her: will she give the fans what they want?
Katy Perry Confirms Cheers for Both the Lions and the Swans:
“I can’t believe it! All I know is, go Lions, go Swans!” the star exclaimed.
“My stylist is from Sydney, and she keeps whispering in my ear, ‘Just say Swans, Swans, Swans.’ But I’m like, what about Brizzy? That’s where the party is! You can’t let those fans down!”
So yes, Katy Perry has officially confirmed that she will be performing “Roar” during Saturday’s AFL Grand Final halftime show.
“They’ll take it, I know they’ll be like, ‘Where’s the Swans song?’ But I don’t know, I’m claiming Switzerland,” Perry joked.
While she remained tight-lipped about the specifics of her AFL Grand Final performance, she did tease fans with a hint of excitement.
“It’s going to be a really big show. I just did a huge performance in Rio and, before that, the VMAs. Each show has been different aesthetically, but there’s something incredible I’ll be coming out on—it looks like it’s from the future,” Perry revealed.
